ABOUT AUDIE MURPHY DAY WEEKEND
Audie Leon Murphy, the most decorated,
combat soldier of World War II.
Every June, in commemoration of Audie Murphy's birthday and Homecoming Ceremony in June, 1945, Farmersville remembers and honors Murphy and all veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

During this special weekend Farmersville rolls out the red carpet to welcome veterans from across the nation; U.S. Army Ft. Hood's Audie Murphy Club and other military delegations; special dignitaries and all our local families to celebrate our freedom, learn of our history and recognize our veterans.
Some highlights include Farmersville's Patriotic Parade and Veteran's Recognition Ceremony. Veteran's and their families, registered for the event, receive complimentary breakfast and lunch on Saturday. All visitors will enjoy special events on Friday and Saturday including the Farmersville Heritage Museum's Audie Murphy Exhibition.

A HERO RETURNS HOME
During World War II, Texans sacrificed whatever was necessary to support “our boys overseas,” and Farmersville was no exception. The local community fully supported every bond drive, every contribution for the Red Cross War Chest drive and collections of recyclable materials. The Farmersville Furlough was a monthly newsletter published by local churches which provided hometown news for service members overseas.

When news spread of Audie’s heroic deeds and his eminent return home,
swift preparation began for a grand hometown welcome in Farmersville, Texas.
